The legal tussle between Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and President Muhammadu Buhari following the declaration of the latter by the Independent National Electoral Commission as the winner of the presidential election of 23 February 2019 has been temporarily put to rest by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal. The Tribunal, on 11th September 2019, gave a unanimous judgment in favour of the Respondents as it went ahead to dismiss the petition in its entirety. It should be noted that all the five issues formulated by the Petitioners in their final written address were resolved against them.
A striking fact about this petition is the keen interest it sparked from both the legal and non-legal communities in Nigeria, and also from Nigerians living abroad. This probably accounts for the live transmission of the proceedings of the Tribunal on the day of judgment.
A certified True Copy of the judgment has been made available in a PDF and can be downloaded below. We also made an attempt to record the judgments as they were being pronounced by the learned jurists. Considering the enormous volume of the judgment, we have decided to make available, the audio version. Same can be downloaded below.
